1st XI Cricket
Farrer 1st XI winners of the regional final of the Alan Davidson Shield.
A heavily rain affected competition with a first-round forfeit from Tamworth High and followed by a lengthy wait to play Guyra Central
School. Guyra won the toss and fielded a very young, but spirited side. After electing to bat, they dismissed for 91. Farrer passed their
score for the loss of one wicket. Best performances on the day were Jordan Lewington and Mat Beattie picking up 2 wickets each, while the
batman all did their job efficiently in passing the Guyra total.
Farrer's regional semi-final was a much closer result. After being sent in on a challenging wicket against some excellent Inverell
bowling, Farrer lost early wickets and at one stage found themselves 6/28. A tough knock from Adam Williams (25 not out) was not enough,
however, to avoid being all out for the meagre total of 78. With the ball, Farrer were in serious trouble with Inverell 2/57 in the 8th
over. Enter Harry Lewington. A brilliant spell saw Harry capture 5/5 from his 5 overs and with support from Zac Craig (3/2) at the other
end Inverell fell an agonising 5 runs short of Farrer's small total.
The regional final was played at Farrer against Warialda. Warialda won the toss and elected to bat, but accurate bowling from Jack Hatton
(3/14) and Blake Scicluna (3/17) restricted Warialda to a total of 65. In reply Adam Williams (25 not out) and Charlie Stone (35 not out)
made quick work of the chase, hitting the winning runs in the 8th over.
Farrer now awaits the next game in the New Year against the winner of North Coast region. ~ Mr David Olrich - Farrer 1st XI Cricket Coach
