Farrer 1st XI Cricket Team Wins Davidson Shield
After being washed out last week in Bathurst, Farrer travelled to Parkes to play Corowa High School in the Davidson Shield final.
Captain Zac Craig won the toss and elected to bat. Corowa’s bowling attack was going to be formidable after they had bowled Hurlstone out for 43 in their semi final.
Despite dislocating his finger in the warm up, Charlie Henderson opened the batting with Adam Williams. An optimistic start was swiftly brought to an end with Adam departing for 9, with Charlie soon after. Zac was dismissed cheaply and after Charlie Stone being bowled for a duck, Farrer found itself 4/41 in the 9th over.
Harry Lewington and Blake Scicluna set about building a partnership of 101 which ultimately proved the difference between the two teams. After Harry and Blake (41) departed, wickets fell at regular intervals but some late hitting from Jack Hatton saw Farrer all out for 169, their highest team total for the season.
The boys took the field with positivity and pride with the determination to win the final for Farrer cricket doyen John Kilborn. Farrer’s formidable opening bowling attack of Harry Lewington and Blake Scicluna were on song from the outset. Tight bowling brought early wickets with Corowa 2/5 after 5 overs. An outstanding Adam Williams run out from deep cover reduced Corowa to 3/9 before Harry and Blake both struck again to leave the opposition 6/19. An inspired direct-hit run out from Zac Craig had coach Mr Olrich extremely excited, as Zac removed his opposing captain and Corowa’s innings in tatters at 7/21. Long sessions of fielding practice after their semi final against Merewether were showing huge dividends. Jordan Lewington’s enigmatic off-spin helped clean up the tail taking two wickets with Jack Hatton taking the last wicket. Corowa all out 37.
The side would like to extend a huge thank you to the parents, staff and Principal Mr Gallagher for their messages of support and travelling as well as the refectory staff for making the trip possible. ~ Mr David Olrich - Head Coach Farrer Cricket
