Rebekah O'Neill

Head Teacher Literacy & Learning

Rebekah O'Neill

Rebekah’s journey into teaching began in 2010 after completing a double degree in Design and Art Education at UNSW's College of Fine Arts (now UNSW Art & Design) in Sydney. She started her career at Tamworth High School and transitioned to Farrer at the beginning of 2012. Her commitment to professional development led her to pursue additional university training alongside teaching in 2014. This further strengthened her expertise and equipped her with the knowledge necessary to teach the subject English and the skills to support students in the realm of literacy.

With a passion for the importance and value of creativity, Rebekah currently teaches Visual Arts and coordinates many extracurricular opportunities in this area at Farrer. Recognising the transformative power of visual expression, she provides students with a platform to explore their artistic talents and unleash their creativity.

In the shared role of Head Teacher of Learning and Literacy, Rebekah plays a vital role in the school’s Writing Initiative, resourcing and implementing effective teaching strategies to enhance students’ writing skills. She also actively contributes to the Department of Education’s HSC Strategy, a research-based initiative aimed at elevating students’ potential in HSC subjects, regardless of their backgrounds. Her involvement in this program highlights her dedication to enhancing her teaching practice and providing equitable learning opportunities for all students.

Rebekah has been and continues to be involved in the wellbeing of students at Farrer through year coordinating (2016-2021), boarding school duties and coordination of the Peer Support program. She is a keen sports enthusiast and is involved in hockey as both a player and a coach.
