Sport Curriculum
Sports offered at Farrer are;
Athletics: Students from Year 7-12 compete for the Warden Cup in the school inter-house Athletics carnival, held in
Term 2 each year. Students have the opportunity to represent Farrer at CHS championships.
Basketball: Basketball is a popular sport at Farrer and played by students in Year 7-12. It is played each Term in the local secondary school competition. A fun and supportive environment is promoted at training and competition. Our Under 15 and First V basketball teams compete in the CHS state-wide knockout competitions.
Chess: Chess is played by boys from Year 7-12. Junior and senior teams compete in regional and state-wide interschool competitions. Students can also participate in chess during pastoral care each morning.
Clay Target Shooting: The Clay Target Shooting Program stresses responsibility, personal development, self-discipline, healthy competition and of course, gun safety. Practice is conducted under the supervision of experienced adult shooters and coaches each Wednesday during Term and boys attend 1-2 competitions each Term.
Cricket: Cricket is contested by boys from Year 7-12. All interested students in Year 7 and 8 can play limited
overs matches each Saturday morning across Terms 4 and 1. Year 9 and 10 students compete during Terms 4 and 1 on Monday afternoons. Year
11 and 12 students have the opportunity to play senior grade cricket with local clubs. Our Under 15’s participate in the CHS state-wide
knockout competition and the First XI competes in the state-wide knockout Davidson Shield as well as the Gleeson Shield and Ron George
Trophy.
Cross Country: Students from Year 7-12 compete in the inter house Cross Country carnival held each year at the
school. The 3.5km and 5.5km tracks pass through the school’s working Farm. Students have the opportunity to represent Farrer at CHS
championships.
Equestrian/Horse Sports: Farrer has an enthusiastic and successful Equestrian team. Students from Year 7-12
represent Farrer at various inter school competitions throughout the year as both individuals and in a team, such as the North West
Equestrian Expo.
Football/Soccer: Football is offered to students from Year 7-12. Football is played every Saturday during
Term 2 and Term 3. Our Under 15’s team participates in the knockout Bill Turner Cup and the First XI competes in the state-wide knockout
Puma Cup.
Golf: Golf is offered to students in Year 7-12. Students can become members of the Farrer Golf Club and play
socially of an afternoon or weekend. Students can select golf as a Friday sport. The annual Royal Farrer Golf Championship is contested by
members of the Farrer Golf Club. Weekend trips to local golf courses are also a regular occurrence.
Hockey: Hockey is offered to boys in Year 7-12. Under 13 and Under 15 teams play in the local junior boys’
competition. The First XI compete in the CHS state-wide knockout competition.
Mountain Biking: Students from Year 7-12 enjoy making the most of their very own mountain bike track at school. Many
students spend their free time using the track. Trips to the Tamworth Mountain Bike Park are also regular on weekends. Students can choose
Mountain Biking for Friday sport.
Rifle Shooting: The Farrer Rifle Program offers boys the opportunity to learn responsible firearms handling
and technique. Practice is conducted under the supervision of experienced adult shooters and coaches each Tuesday during Term. Students
compete at the end of each term against other schools in the region. They also have the opportunity to compete monthly in Open
Competitions.
Rugby League: Farrer is involved in a range of State-wide Rugby League competitions and representative pathways.
These include the First XIII team playing in the NSWCHS University Shield and NRL Schoolboy Cup in the Elite Schools competitions. The
Under 14’s play in the NSWCHS Buckley Shield competition. The Under 13’s and 15’s contest the NSWRL Country Cup competition. The Under
15’s and 18’s players trial for the NSWCHS Rugby League teams. Rugby league is contested by boys from Year 7-12 in the Group 4 Junior and
Senior League competitions each weekend of Terms 2 and 3. Training is undertaken on the school ovals after school. Farrer is also
the base for the Greater Northern Tigers Under 16 and 18 representative program, these teams compete in the NSWRL Andrew Johns and Laurie
Daley competitions.
Rugby Union: Rugby union is contested by boys from Year 7-12 in the local competition each Friday evening
in Term 2 and Term 3. Training is undertaken on the school ovals after school. Our Under 15’s annually participate in the state-wide
Buchan Shield and the First XV competes in the state-wide knockout Waratah Shield and contests the Hawthorne Shield in the Hunter Region.
Steer Team: The Steer Team if offered to students from Year 7-12.. Students are guided by experienced
agricultural staff in feeding, leading, husbandry activities and show prep before and after school. Students represent Farrer at various
competitions across the region.
Swimming: Students from Year 7-12 compete for the Police Cup in the school inter-house Swimming carnival, held in
February each year. Students have access to a 25m 6 lane pool every day for training during Term 1 and 4. Students have the opportunity to
represent Farrer at CHS championships.
Tennis: Tennis is played by students from Year 7-12. The First IV competes in the state-wide knockout Stan Jones
Trophy. Training is offered to students by highly skilled staff. Students also play socially of an afternoon or weekend on the school's
tennis courts.
Touch Football: Touch Football is contested by students from Year 7-12 the local high school’s competition.
The competition is ‘mixed’, and teams are combined with female students from other local schools. The First VI competes in CHS state-wide
knockout competition.
Water Polo: Water Polo is played by boys from Year 7-12 during Term 4 and 1. Teams compete in the local
school competition each Tuesday afternoon. Our Under 15 and First VII teams compete in the CHS state-wide knockout competitions.
