2026 Mock Trial Competition
The Year 11 Legal Studies class contested the 2026 Mock Trial Competition in Tamworth.
Farrer sent two teams, who competed along with six other teams from Calrossy, St Mary’s College Gunnedah and Oxley High.
The Farrer team received expert coaching and assistance in the lead-up from Ali Chapman, an experienced Family and Civil Law Solicitor from Legal Aid.
Students played key roles including Barristers, Solicitors, witnesses and Court Officers to argue their case and role-play a courtroom in action. They learned valuable skills in legal research and analysis, preparation of a legal case, advocacy and the operation of the courtroom.Farrer 1 came up against Oxley High, while Farrer 2 competed against St Mary’s College. In both matters, the Farrer team was seeking an order to dismiss the application for nullity. Both teams were successful in their application and won their case.
For the first time, Farrer took home the trophy, with Farrer 2 winning the overall point score on the day. Congratulations to Henry Chatfield (Farrer 2) for being awarded the best Barrister, and Logan Petersen (Farrer 1) for being awarded the best Solicitor on the day.
It was an excellent, hands-on learning experience and provided great opportunities to meet other Legal Studies students from around the region.
