Australian Youth Championships for Water Polo
During the April school holidays, several Farrer students competed at the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships in Brisbane. This event brings together over 3000 players representing more than 140 teams from around Australia, plus international teams from New Zealand, South Africa and Singapore.
In Week 1, Hudson Rae and Luca Smith represented the Hunter Hurricanes team, while Lachy Dunn played for the Mantas in the Under 14s Green Division.
In Week 2, Campbell Reynish, Darcy Mainey, Ethan Jackson, Harry Mudford, Hayden Amos, Jackson Hayne, Jackson Hicks, Oscar Kelly and Will Vidler represented Tamworth in the Under 16s Green Division. The boys were coached by Libby Magann, who also coaches Farrer’s water polo team, this was the first time in several years that Tamworth had its own team at this premier junior water polo championship.
The boys had a great time, displayed excellent teamwork, learned new skills in a very competitive environment, and played the game with positive spirit and attitude. Ethan was the sixth highest goal scorer for the tournament, which was a tremendous individual achievement. Congratulations to all of the boys, and we’re looking forward to seeing where their water polo journey takes them in coming years.
