Farrer Science Club Robot Hand Challenge!
How would YOU make a robotic hand using just cardboard, straws, and string? Our Science Club students put their engineering skills to the test with basic materials to build hands dexterous enough to pick up a ball and even sign their name in Auslan!
At first, all the hands looked quite alike, but as the design process unfolded, student creativity and ingenuity really shone through Each hand had a unique structure aimed at gaining a competitive edge.
Congratulations to our ultimate winner, Wilfie Stewart, whose marionette-style design allowed smooth joint movement and clever string-to-controller mapping to isolate gestures perfectly.
Once again, Science Club proved learning is best when it’s fun! Well done, team!
