Farrer snatches Bronze in Stan Jones Tennis

On Wed 5 August, Mr Heitmeyer and the school tennis team . Consisting of Myles Manning at number one, Curtis Parkinson at number two, myself at number three and Eddie Martin at number four, together, we travelled to Forster to compete in the state championships for public schools.
We had a tough start against Keira High School, who finished fifth in the state last year. Curtis and Myles faced strong opposition and found it difficult to contain their number one player, who dominated many of the points. However, Eddie and I were able to secure a convincing 6–1 win in our doubles match.
At 3–5 down, Curtis and Myles found another gear. Myles’ speed helped keep them in rallies, while Curtis produced some powerful forehand passing shots as their opponents moved to the net. They fought back to win in a tiebreak, giving us a strong 2–0 lead heading into the singles.
Eddie and I carried that momentum into our singles matches, both winning comfortably. Eddie played some of his best tennis, turning what could have been a close contest into a solid win.
Myles then demonstrated his experience and composure, defeating their number one player. That secured us five sets and the overall victory. This win earned us a bye for the afternoon, so we made the most of the great weather; playing aqua golf, visiting the sand dunes and finishing the day with a good pub dinner before preparing for the next round.
On Thursday morning, we faced the tournament favourites, Hunter Sports High, in the semi-final. Although the rallies were competitive, the scoreboard quickly moved in Hunter’s favour. They won both doubles matches and all singles, meaning we would play Chatswood High for third place.
Fortunately, Chatswood were missing their top player, who would likely have been the strongest competitor in the tournament. Even so, their number two, playing as number one, was still a threat, defeating Myles convincingly in the singles. However, he couldn’t carry the team alone, Myles and Curtis shut him out of the doubles and we won the remaining singles and doubles matches, securing the bronze medal for the second year in a row.
This has been my sixth year representing Farrer in tennis with Mr Heitmeyer. It has always been something I’ve looked forward to, and it’s been a privilege to be part of such a talented and successful team each year. I will definitely miss these trips.
I’d like to sincerely thank Mr Heitmeyer for his coaching, organisation, and the effort he puts into making these trips enjoyable both on and off the court. I’m confident the boys will continue to achieve strong results in the future, and I wish them all the best in their tennis journeys.
