Living History Presentation
On Monday of Week 9, Shane Blackman from WWI Living History returned to Farrer to share historical artefacts and knowledge about the frontline experiences of trench warfare in World War I.
We welcome Shane back every two years for this presentation, which provides excellent hands-on learning to support the work students complete in class learning about ‘Australians at War.’
During presentations to Year 9 and Year 10, plus the Year 11 Modern and Ancient History classes, Shane presented a hands-on learning experience which looked at weaponry, uniforms, food and medical supplies from World War I. Students developed empathy for the experiences of our soldiers, gory details about the use of gas and other war technologies, and how trenches were created and lived in throughout the war.
As always, Shane used his extensive knowledge to deliver an entertaining and engaging presentation full of student participation.
