Strong Start for our Senior Debaters
Farrer First IV Debating has had a strong start to the Premier’s Debating Challenge this year, winning both of our opening rounds.
In Round 1, we debated against Evans High School on the topic, “Should books never be banned based on the actions and opinions of their authors?” This was a challenging and thought-provoking debate that required careful consideration of ethics, censorship, and the separation of art from the artist. Our team presented strong arguments and rebuttals, ultimately securing the win.
In Round 2, we faced Five Islands College, debating the topic, “Should parents be allowed to watch their child’s sporting games?” This debate focused on balancing parental involvement with student independence and pressure in sporting environments. Through clear teamwork, strong preparation, and confident delivery, we were again successful. These victories have given the team great momentum moving forward. We are now preparing for our next debate in the coming weeks and look forward to continuing to represent Farrer with confidence and skill.
The team would also like to extend a huge thank you to the timekeepers and chairpeople for organising the debates, the FEC for supplying
food, Joel from Tech support for assisting with logging in and resolving technical issues, and, of course, our coach, Mr Barbara, for his
organisation and expert guidance in the lead-up to each debate.
