Farrer 1st Xi Vs Kingscliff High

Farrer 1st XI cricket team made their way northward over the range to play Kinsgcliff High in the quarter-finals of the Alan Davidson Shield State Knockout competition. As a bonus to the trip, we were excited to see and caught up with former Farrer kitchen staff member Peter Lynch who now resides in the area.

The boys began a hot and extremely humid Tuesday morning with an inspiring warmup from Mr Emslie. A call of heads won us the toss, electing to bat and sending Kingscliff to field on a slow, wet outfield.

We found ourselves in trouble early with the score at 3/18 after 10 overs, Riley Gentle and Chris Fox held firm for the majority of the innings with a partnership of 47, scoring 30 and 24 respectively. Late cameos from Matt Beattie and Coby Single, pushed Farrer’s total to 122, being all out in the 37th over.

A strong opening spell from Blake Scicluna and Hamish George brought their total to 4-30 off their first 11 overs. With a strong fielding performance from everyone, drinks at 20 overs had the match slightly in our favour with Kingscliff precariously placed at 6-67. The first over after drinks saw Jordan Lewington take 3-2, before Coby Single closed their innings, Kingscliff bowled out for 70, and a Farrer victory by 52 runs.

Jordan finished with figures of 5-23 off his 6 overs, earning him his second five-wicket haul of the competition this year.

Special thank you Mr Emslie for his assistance in coaching, Ms Evan for helping to drive the bus and scoring and also to the feccies for providing breakfast and lunch on game day.
