Student In The Spotlight - Jack Herden
Year 11 Music student and trumpeter extraordinaire, Jack Herden, has been very busy over the last few weeks. As a member of the Tamworth RSL Brass band, Jack performed several times at various Anzac Day commemorations. Jack played in the march at Somerton and also played the Last Post and Rouse at the Somerton service. Several people commented on how good the trumpet sounded – one even commenting that they thought it was a recording. From there, Jack performed the Last Post and Rouse at the pre-service at the Marius street memorial before marching with the RSL Brass band. Jack also played with the RSL Brass Band for the official Tamworth Anzac Commemoration service in Town Hall. Closer to home, Jack did a wonderful rendition of both the Last Post and Rouse at our own Anzac Day assembly. A busy programme!
Jack was also asked to perform at Danny Fisher “In The Raw”, a play reading that occurred at the Tamworth Community Centre. He played a number of smooth Jazz pieces as part of the evening.
This week, Jack performed in Sydney as a member of the Regional Youth Orchestra. Following a successful audition, he was selected to join with other musicians from Conservatoriums across the state. These first grade musicians spent the week rehearsing and performing with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House with legendary conductor, Sir Simon Rattle.
Jack had the opportunity to perform music from Star Wars and several other classical pieces. He was also fortunate to work with a Trumpet tutor from the London Symphony Orchestra. Well done Jack and congratulations on your success with the Regional Youth Orchestra! ~ Mr Richard Mead - Music Teacher
