Debating Creates Superheroes

It is true what they say- debating creates superheroes!

The Farrer A team met Macquarie Fields High School as the affirmative, arguing ‘that the HSC should be abolished.’ Will Hamel, Jackson Purdey and Forbes Murdoch, together with team advisor Gilly Thwaites, provided a fine model that many students would most certainly vote for. Unfortunately, they were unable to convince the adjudicator and… the HSC will have to remain.

The Farrer B team soared in their debate against Grafton High School in a challenging debate as the affirmative, arguing ‘that the government should pay a salary to stay at home parents.’ The economics and morality of social welfare, the role of government spending and the complexities of parenting were astutely debated. Happily, the Year 12 team comprised of Finlay Boresch, Joseph Anderson, Lewis Shepherdson and team advisor Nick Mead, came away with the win.

Thank you to Hugo Pollard and Lachlan Clydesdale who chaired the debates. A special mention to Miss Bailey who has clearly taught her Year 12 Economics class, the array of material that the Year 12 team were able to present, dynamically led by Lewis Shepherdson.
