First Iv Tennis
Throughout Term 1 and 2, the First IV Tennis team consisting of Sam Savovski, Myles Manning, Curtis Parkinson and myself have travelled around the region to play tennis in the inter-school knockout competition. Our first round was a forfeit from Oxley, then we had an 8 sets to 0 win against Coonabarabran, followed by a 7 sets to 1 victory against Narrabri High School.
On Wednesday, 7th of June, we travelled to Guyra to play Gurya Central School in the Regional Grand Final. We arrived at the tennis courts with enough time for a warm up before our first doubles matches. We knew these would be tough, as their team had the Purvis brothers who have beaten us before. They decided to play their two best together. This meant that Myles and Curtis walked off court with a 6-0 win against their weaker pairing in about 15 minutes. Another half hour went by before our match finished. It was a close one, with some impressive shots from both sides, Sam Savovski and I managing to keep our errors down and beat the Purvis brothers by a mere 3 points in a tiebreaker.
Following on from our strong start, we kept the momentum into the singles, resulting in 3 out of 4 wins with a close tiebreak loss. Winning the 5 sets gave us the win for the day. We finished up with 2 final doubles knowing the win was on the board. This made us play harder and didn't help motivate the Guyra boys. We managed to come away with two more wins in the doubles, with Myles and Curtis coming back from 5-3 down to triumph 7 games to 5. We ended the day with a convincing 7 sets to 1 win.
The First IV will now go on to play at the State Championships in Ulladulla on the South Coast.
A big thanks to Mr Heitmeyer for transporting us around the region and coaching us throughout the days.
