We are delighted to share some excellent individual HSC results from the Farrer Class of 2023. More importantly, we celebrate the success of the students from this cohort who have fulfilled their personal goals and prepare for life after Farrer.


Year 10 Work Experience 2023

The award recipient for Term 4, Week 7 is Nicholas Matthews for his consistent application in Agriculture and Animal Management.The award recipient for Term 4, Week 8 is Mitchell Taggart for always trying his best in Mathematics, regardless of how challenging the task may be.


Year 7 ODAS

Year 7 has been enjoying their time in Sydney over the past week, with plenty of photos to showcase some of the many activities they've taken part in.


Year 9 Southern ODAS

For the past two weeks, Year 9 has been enjoying their ODAS trip to Melbourne and Tasmania! Take a look at the activities they've been enjoying.


Orientation Afternoon

Earlier this term, Farrer welcomed 2024 Year 7 students and their families to our Orientation afternoon. 


Student in the Spotlight - Myles Manning

Farrer student Myles Manning has won all RMS this year and went on to win the Champ of Champs in Inverell against players from the coast and beyond.


Year 12 Morale Boosting

Year 12 is a marathon, not a sprint! Over the last 2 weeks, the new Year 12 students participated in some morale boosting fun to help them to the finish line.


New Farrer Mural

Farrer Class of 2023 elected to install a mural artwork on the old boys museum wall, which will display the vibrant and diverse opportunities and experiences Farrer offers - with depictions of agriculture, sports ranging from cricket to soccer to rugby league and the supportive and inclusive culture felt by marching, carnivals and mateship.


Saying Farewell to Staff

On Thursday, Farrer formally farewelled four staff members; Mrs Gai Chambers, Mr John Drenkhahn , Mrs Angela Wilde and Mr John McAdam at a special surprise assembly. They will be sorely missed by the Farrer community and we wish them all the very best in the future endeavours.


SLAP Morning Tea

Today's SLAP welcome morning tea was a social event with delectable food for both staff and students. Our incoming Year 12 students can work with a mentor of their choice to construct a Senior Learning Action Plan through the SLAP programme.


Year 8 ‘Menagerie’ Artworks

Year 8 Visual Art students have been learning about the representation of animals in art with Miss Grills.


Northern Schools Prime Steer Competition

After many months of preparation, eight Farrer students competed in the Northern Schools Prime Steer Competition, held over two days at the Armidale Exhibition Centre. Students participated in a Junior Judging activity, showed 5 steers across two classes and entered into Stage 4 and Stage 5 Paraders competitions.


U16s Rugby League

On Wednesday 1st of November the under 16’s rugby league team competed in the Jamie Lyon Killa 9’s Finals here at school. The competition consisted of the best high schools from across the Greater Northern Region spanning from Glen Innes to Singleton.


2023 ICAS English Competition

Farrer’s Henry Chatfield and Ethan Ford have the makings of extraordinary literary gentlemen.Both have excelled in the 2023 ICAS English Competition. Henry placed in the top three percent in the State, whilst Ethan placed in the top seven percent.


NWSSA Open Water Polo

Congratulation to the eight Farrer students on making the North West Schools Sport Association Open Water Polo side. We wish them the best of luck for their competition in Wollongong.


Junior Basketball Grand Final

Farrer had 6 teams competing in the Basketball Grand Finals on Wednesday night.

Year 11 Cert III Agriculture AI Program

During Weeks 3 & 4 this term, the Year 11 Certificate III Agriculture Beef class have been involved in the planning and running of the Farrer Angus Herd AI Program.


Year 7 Transition Afternoon

Farrer welcomed some new faces at our Year 7 transition afternoon. We look forward to seeing all our 2024 Year 7 students at our Orientation Day held 6 December 2023.


Farrer at the Stand Tall Regional Tour

The inspirational event, which aims to provide students with motivation, skills, strength, and resilience to stand up to bullying while building hope for the future, has returned to Tamworth today.


Farrer Food Tech Students Have Been Cooking Up A Storm

Year 10 cooked dumplings last Friday. They made the filling, hand rolled each dumpling using a variety of techniques, and then cooked the dumplings using two different methods, pan frying and boiling.


Farrer at CAPERS

Student spent the week at the TRECC rehearsing music and dance items for two fantastic shows on Friday and Saturday nights.


Remembrance Day

November 11 is a day to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice from those who have served their country.


Primary Industries Livestock Handling Course

Last week both Primary Industries Cert III (Beef) and Cert II (Core) undertook the low-stress livestock handling course.


Deputy Principal’s Student in the Spotlight Award

The award recipient for Term 4, Week 3 is Dallas Kitchingman for his outstanding application in CAPA. To quote the CAPA faculty, "Dallas has an outstanding work ethic. He never stops trying to do his best, no matter how hard the work is. He is an all-round true Farrer gentleman.”


EXCELLENT NEWS from Farrer TAS Faculty

Another step closer..... Congratulations to Farrer Industrial Technology students David Barclay, Shannon Charters, Archie Davidson and Lachlan Overton whose HSC major work have been SHORTLISTED for consideration in Shape, for exhibition in 2024.


Jack Marshall - NSW U16 Hockey

In mid-July, Farrer student Jack Marshall was selected in the NSW U16 All Schools Hockey Team and played in the Schools Sport Australia U16 Hockey Nationals in Adelaide. Jack then travelled to Hobart to play in the NSW U18 Blues Team at the Australian U18 Hockey Nationals.


2023 Junior Sport Awards

The 2023 Junior Sport Awards were held in the Michael Kilborn Centre last Friday. The awards celebrated our junior sporting teams and their achievements this year.


Farrer 2023 Melbourne Cup Fundraiser

The atmosphere was set for an entertaining afternoon. Students and staff enjoyed hot chips at lunch time coupled with live entertainment by TAS teacher Mr Stephen Druce and student Bayley Cork before watching the Main "Farrer" Melbourne Cup race.


Farrer 15s CHS Basketball

Last week, the Farrer 15’s CHS Basketball Team travelled to Sydney to play in the Top 8 Finals tournament. They had 3 close games on the first day, winning against Condell Park HS and losing to both Illawarra Sports HS and Endeavour Sports HS.


Year 7 White Baling

This week, Year 7 White Class had the opportunity to observe the baling of oaten and lucerne hay down on the school farm.


Pat Carberry Presentation Assembly

A special presentation assembly was held yesterday at Farrer with honorary guest Mr Pat Carberry presenting the Carberry Cup to Year 12 student Logan Spinks for being the most outstanding in a Senior Sport.

On the 20th of October, 8 Farrer teams competed against a strong contingent of teams from across NSW in the VEX Robotics Competition “Full Volume”.


Charles Sturt University Visit

Farrer Years 10 and 11 students travelled to Charles Sturt University - Wagga Wagga with students from 4 other schools in our region to tour the facilities and experience what it's like to study in the fields of agriculture, animal science, and veterinary medicine.

Matt Dodds' Science Prize

Congratulations to Farrer Science teacher Matt Dodds who was awarded Highly Commended in the Prime Minister’s Science Prize for Science Teaching in Secondary Schools. What a fabulous achievement!!

TAS HSC Project Highlights

Congratulations to the 14 Farrer Industrial Technology students: David Barclay, Shannon Charters, Archie Davidson, Lachlan Overton, Joseph Bartlett, Zac Craig, Luke Devney, Nicholas Driscoll, Oliver Gibbs, Noah Hooley, Thomas Maxey, Flynn Palmer, Nicholas Revell and Samuel Rosewell whose HSC major work have been nominated for consideration in Shape 2023.


Year 9 Wool Science Sheering

This week, Year 9 Wool Science are learning to shear the Merino sheep with Mr Smith. This is a part of the practical component of the course alongside the breeding and stud management aspects. They also learn to throw fleeces, skirt and roll wool.


Inter-School Horse Extravaganza

The Inter-School Horse Extravaganza (ISHE) took place at the AELEC in Tamworth from the 13th to 16th of October. It is a massive event with over 700 horses entered. Many volunteers are required to help the event run.


Student In The Spotlight - Lucas Broderick

Congratulations to Farrer Year 9 student Lucas Broderick for making the NSW Waratahs Under 15 squad following the Waratahs U15s Next Gen Cup.


Year 7 One's Agricultural Activities

During 2023, Year 7 One have been carefully propagating some native bush foods getting them ready for planting in our new gardens.


15’s CHS Basketball Report

In Term 3, the 15’s basketball team played in a gala day in Tamworth that involved Oxley High School, Armidale Secondary College, Peel High School and Tamworth High School. Farrer were undefeated on the day and advanced to the next round of the CHS knockout.


Haycock Dormitory's Officially Open!

We welcomed the members of the Haycock family at the official opening of the Haycock Dormitory last Saturday.


Farrer U15s Rugby League

The Farrer U15s capped off the perfect season when they remained unbeaten and claimed the Group 4 Junior Rugby League U15s Premiership following a triumphant victory over Gunnedah in the Grand Final on Saturday 9 September 2023.


Experience Day 2023

On the last day of term 3, we welcomed over 200 Year 5 students for the Farrer 2023 Experience Day. Our visitors enjoyed making new friends, participated in classroom activities and experienced what it's like to be part of Farrer.


Mr Maloy Farewell

On the 19th September 2023, the Farrer community came together at a special assembly to Farewell Deputy Principal, Luke Maloy as he embarks on a new journey in the Department of Education.
